Reminds me of Russell Branyan. I was surprised to read he was having an OK year in 2001 when he blew out his knee.
I wouldn't mind a Shane Spencer, but how about a Shane Spencer type who can play third base?

This reminds me of the Geronimo Berroa situation.
Berroa freaked out when he wasn't playing everday.
Berroa had average 25 homers and 99 RBI's the previous four years, then he did nothing in a limited role in Cleveland.
Shane could be an excellent corner position player (1st base, left-field, right-field) utility guy, but an everyday player?
Where will Matt Lawton play?

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Matt Lawton or Ellis Burks is traded sometime during the season and Shane Spencer fills in at either DH or LF for the rest of the season. I'm guessing he's gone by next year thought no matter how well he does.

On the other hand, this is another move that had to be made because Shapiro did not want too many Hart Hires around.
Surely this season would have been a perfect spot for someone like ARAM. I hope Spencer isn't as "soft" as he appears.

Spencer won't start but he'll be a solid platoon guy and has a great glove in the outfield.

Great Glove? He looks slightly plump and out of shape to me, (I'm basing that on a picture I saw of him swinging at a ball), I doubt he moves that fast, which is a prerequisite to being a good fielding outfielder.
